ToughSwitch™ Availability? ToughSwitch™ materials are readily available and held in stock. Orders are custom made and tailored to your specific size and requirements. Our friendly staff will talk you through lead times and design process. Average lead times can take anywhere from 3-4 weeks, but can vary depending on your order and shipping requirements.
How is ToughSwitch™ made? ToughSwitch™ is a made by combining two panels of glass with a piece of PDLC film- (Polymer Dispersed Liquid Crystal) using our specially designed ultra clear interlayer. Combining these materials together successfully gives you the product. ToughSwitch™ is then connected to one of our purpose built transformers which supplies electricity through 2 wires protruding from the edge of the panel and attached to the busbar. The busbar enables the glass to go from opaque to transparent.
ToughSwitch™ is Opaque in an “Off” State. When the power is connected and turned on ToughSwitch™ goes transparent.
What is a Busbar? A Busbar is a copper strip that disperses the electricity evenly throughout the Switchable Privacy Glass. This strip is approximately 10mm in width and can easily be concealed within most frames
What distinguishes our ToughSwitch™ from other Switchable Privacy Glass products? The main difference between our ToughSwitch™ product and other Switchable Privacy Glass products is the optical clarity. Where other products are only reaching 75% -77% VLT (Visible Light Transmittance) our ToughSwitch™ product starts at 82% VLT and can reach upwards of 85% VLT. We are able to achieve such a high VLT because we have done years of extensive research on sourcing and combining some of the highest quality products from around the globe. We have a team fully dedicated to the development and quality control of our ToughSwitch™ product.
How is ToughSwitch™ installed? Just as any glass would be installed, with the addition of two wires, which will protrude out of the designated edge(s). All the installer will need to do is make sure there is a hole in the frame approx. 6mm for these wires to fit through and be connected to a transformer, which will normally be kept in the roof cavity.
PLEASE NOTE: All electrical work needs to be completed by a fully licensed electrician.

May I just say that your staff at Tough Glass are providing us with excellent service. We have never in all the years experienced such a service. I rang on Wednesday to request a couple of urgent panels for which we collected this morning. That truly is amazing!!
Everybody should use Tough Glass and I would never use anyone else regardless of pricing like some do. I don’t think we have ever received a bad piece of glass from Tough Glass either. It’s a credit to you and your staff.
