ToughSwitch™ in boardrooms, meeting rooms and office applications.
11th July 2019In the ever-changing world of design and architecture, it’s almost impossible to stay relevant and keep up. Architects are the most vulnerable at this time, as the pressure to keep up with trends such as the latest contemporary designs, building materials, and energy efficiencies, all which change so quickly.
With so much evolving at such a rapid pace, the modern architect is finding it all most impossible to stay informed with the technological advances in glass. This article aims to highlight ToughSwitch™ switchable glass and how it can be used within applications such as boardrooms, meeting rooms and offices.
ToughSwitch™ enables you to have both privacy and transparency at the flick of a switch. ToughSwitch™ operates using an electrical current to adjust the appearance from translucent to opaque, depending on the user’s needs, no need for additional items like bulky curtains or blinds.
Below are two recently completed projects that have been undertaken in the heart of Perth using our newest product offering ToughSwitch™ privacy glass.
Project: 182 St Georges Terrace, Perth, Western Australia, 6000
Glazier: Guthrie Glass & Aluminium
Glass Supplier: Tough Glass
Glass Specification: 11.2mm ToughSwitch™
A stylish and elegant space upon entry to this amazing building, that’s where this boardroom is situated. However, being on the ground floor level of this high rise meant that this area was always going to be dark and closed off. To really complete this space, the architects knew they were going to have to utilise as much natural light as they possibly can to really showcase the different colours, textures and artwork used in this room.
ToughSwitch™ really added a new dimension of flair to this boardroom by enabling the already limited natural light to penetrate through, really opening up the space, all at the flick of a switch. The owners of this building were extremely happy with the use of ToughSwitch™ in their boardroom, as it created a bit of a “WOW” factor for people upon entry, whilst also having the addition of usability.
Project: Curtain University Offices
Address: 137 St Georges Terrace, Perth, Western Australia, 6000
Glazier: Metro Glass
Glass Supplier: Tough Glass
Glass Specification: 13.2mm ToughSwitch™
A modern touch to this heritage listed building, ToughSwitch™ was used to separate the area between the reception and the boardroom on floor 1. The design brief called for something with high transparency and usability in mind. This area has a lot of traffic but has excellent views of St Georges Terrace below. ToughSwitch™ has not only provided usability but was specified on this project due to the high visual transparency of >80% and low haze <3.8% .
It’s safe to say, that all parties were very happy with the use of ToughSwitch™ in this instance.
